Teen Programs Summer Intern Educator (P/T)—Education Division

The Museum Apprentice Program employs high school students to lead educational tours to day camp groups. Day camp children range in age from five to twelve. In July and August, Apprentices work with camp groups from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays. Teen Programs Intern Educator assists with this program from mentoring teens to assisting with logistics and working directly with the coordinator of Teen Programs.

Requirements: Individual should have a B.A. or B.F.A. (or be a Junior or Senior) in studio art, art history, museum education, art education, history, anthropology or related field; have experience working with large groups, teenagers, and young children; have excellent writing and oral communication skills; be extremely detail-oriented and able to manage numerous tasks efficiently; and have a cheerful, friendly, and outgoing disposition. Photography skills are a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities: Intern works closely with a museum educator to plan, organize, and facilitate activities for the Museum Apprentice Program; oversees Museum Apprentices and ensure day camp tours are returning smoothly; mentors Museum Apprentices and assists with tour preparation and execution; and documents Museum Apprentice Program via photography and written evaluations.

Work Schedule: Training dates for Museum Apprentices are June 29–30 and July 1–3 (10 a.m.–3 p.m.).

Camp dates (Wednesday through Friday) are July 8–10, 15–17, 22–24, 29–31, and August 5–7 and 12–14 (9 a.m.–4 p.m.).

Compensation: Interns will be issued a Brooklyn Museum ID for the duration of their internship, which will give them a discount at the Museum Shop and Café, as well as one free admission to most art museums throughout the country.
