Adult Programs Interns—Education (two openings)
(Full-time, non-union, paid internship positions)
Requirements: Candidates must be resourceful, motivated, and able to take on a leadership role in the planning and execution of public programs targeted at adult Museum visitors. Individuals with excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to pay attention to detail are encouraged to apply. The ability to multitask, research, and work independently are essential. A background in art history and/or arts administration, as well as a solid knowledge or interest in the cultural life of a major metropolitan area, is preferred.

Responsibilities: The Adult Programs Interns will work with the Education programming staff to provide support for the department. Responsibilities include developing activities such as creative art-making sessions, gallery talks, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, film screenings, and performing arts series in conjunction with special exhibitions and permanent collections. Interns will assist in all aspects of expanding the Museum’s appeal to the Brooklyn and greater New York communities as well as increasing attendance through researching, programming, and marketing. Logistical support will also be required. Opportunities to participate include but are not limited to the Museum’s hugely popular Target First Saturdays events, weekend programs, and a possible summer performance series.
Work schedule: Nine weeks, beginning the second week of June 2013, Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. One of those days will be spent on ARTSIntern field trips. Occasional evening work may be required, substituting for time during the workweek.
Compensation: Interns will receive a $3,300 stipend. They will also be issued a Brooklyn Museum ID for the duration of their internship, which will give them a discount in the Museum Shop and Café, as well as free admission to most art museums throughout the country. Academic credit is possible.
