IN CONVERSATION

Our visitors respond to this 30-second video.

  • As I walked in, I was reminded of the shells in the artisan shops near my school in the Philippines. All of the pieces in the room were made from capiz shells that could be formed using cheap coconut vinegar. I was so happy that they saved this piece for last. See, it wasn't just the shapes and colors but the sounds created from the varying directions of the wind that kept me interested in their discussion.

  • These pieces are so imaginative. My friend Rebecca and I wish landscapes like these pieces actually existed! We both feel very highly charged--it's slightly scary!

    — Daniel

  • It reminded me of thousands of happy turtles dancing :D

  • It makes me think that more people should be conscious of the vast array of materials available to them, sometimes the simplest thing I more complex than it seems.

  • Everything that I am learning what life is all about are represented in Anatsui's work. I feel comforted and touched.
