In Conversation: Acts of Resistance and Inclusion in African American Art

Prompted in part by the critical response to MoMA PS1's exhibition Now Dig This! Art and Black Los Angeles 1960–1980, this roundtable will examine the dialogue that surrounds the history of African American art, from the Black Arts Movement to the present day. Participants will discuss the importance of acts of resistance and inclusion, from corrective curatorial projects and critical engagements with influential institutions to a lessening of reductive history, theory, and criticism being written on the topic.

Participants include artist William Villalongo, artist and writer Mira Schor, art historian Camara Holloway, and artist Ademola Olugebefola. The discussion will be moderated by cultural critic Rich Blint, with a special introduction by Danny Simmons.
