Summer Teacher Institute: “Connecting Visual and Language Arts”

Thursday, July 10, 2014

9 am–4 pm

,

Join us for this six-day course to help K–8 educators connect Visual and Language Arts. Practice and reflect on dynamic, interactive teaching strategies to help students analyze, interpret, and create works of art and build their literacy skills. Throughout the course, we’ll think about different kinds of learners and explore approaches for helping them, all of which support the Common Core Learning Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy and the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts (Visual Arts) benchmarks.

Come for a "behind-the-scenes" look at our galleries, resources, and programs, and develop your own interdisciplinary lesson plans (for the museum or classroom environment) that can translate to your teaching practice.

Course Dates: July 7–11 & 14

Course Type: P credit (3 credits)

Course Fee: $375 ($125 After School Professional Development Program registration fee included)

Auditing Fee: $250

If you’d like to earn P credits for this course, visit the New York City Department of Education After School Professional Development Program website. To audit the course, email us or call (718) 501-6228.
