Film: Robert Frank’s Cocksucker Blues

2–4 p.m.
Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor

A rarely screened film directed by Robert Frank, Cocksucker Blues (1972, 93 min., R) follows the Rolling Stones’ 1972 American tour, capturing the sex, drugs, and antics that accompanied the band's fame. Photographer Ken Regan and Gail Buckland, guest curator of Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History, 1955 to the Present, will introduce the film and participate in a question-and-answer session following the screening.

La Vie du Christ (The Life of Christ) (Alice Guy Blaché, 1906, 34 min., NR). This silent film by the first female director draws on James Tissot’s paintings of the life of Jesus Christ as inspiration for its backgrounds. Judith Dolkart, former Associate Curator of European Art and curator of the exhibition James Tissot: “The Life of Christ,” and Joan Simon, Curator at Large at the Whitney Museum, introduce the film and answer questions following the screening. Presented in conjunction with the Whitney Museum. Live piano accompaniment provided by Ben Model. Free tickets are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

A Hard Day’s Night (Richard Lester, 1964, 87 min, NR). This critically acclaimed comedy and mock documentary stars the Fab Four at the height of Beatlemania. Free tickets are available at the Visitor Center at 6 p.m.

Film and Discussion: Pray the Devil Back to Hell

The award-winning documentary Pray the Devil Back to Hell (Gini Reticker, 2008, 71 min., NR) chronicles the remarkable story of the Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their country. A dialogue and question-and-answer session with producer Abigail E. Disney and Dr. Elizabeth Sackler follows the screening. Presented in conjunction with the U.S. National Committee for UNIFEM, Metro NY Chapter.
