Cleopatra's Needle, Alexandria, Egypt. Lantern slide, collected circa 1900. Goodyear Archival Collection, Brooklyn Museum Archives
This image is from a series of lantern slides collected by William Henry Goodyear as teaching tools for the many lectures he gave in his role as the Museum's curator of fine arts. Today the images, many hand-colored, are important documents, recording the appearance at that time of many archaeological monuments that have since changed or been destroyed.
