as a university teacher of broad surveys of american literature, i have come to repeatedly turn to the brooklyn museum's exhibits on u.s. art to help me bring art history into my literature classes in an interdisciplinary and visual way, and for this i am quite grateful. i have also begun to bring my young nieces along...

This is a amazing piece showing what you can do with such beautiful water colors and defying paint brushes. This piece is not my favorite, but it is a "awesome" painting.

I am less interested in the thickness of the paper used in "Sea and Rocks" for example than I am in WHERE the scene it represents might exist. That would inform the viewer far more than the brand of paper it is painted on.
