Performance

Every Target First Saturday the Museum presents a dance, theater, or spoken-word performance that brings alive the art in the collection and our theme for the evening. Give a shout-out to a dance group that has inspired you to start dancing or a spoken-word artist who has motivated you to start writing. We’re open to a variety of styles ranging from folk to classical to contemporary. It could be a multimedia presentation, a musical theater piece, or the premiere of a work in progress by an up-and-coming choreographer. The performance should be of professional quality and engaging and enjoyable for our audience.

Log in and submit your nomination today to put the performer of your choice in the running to be featured at October's Target First Saturday.

Niles Ford, founder of Urban Dance Collective. His recent projects were great, such as In Search Of The Invisible People. Niles Ford choreographed his this project with the message about the dance scene of the 70’s. For us who lived and still love the dance scene of today, this project Niles Ford created is not to be missed!

Claudine Bryant’s solo show “Temporarily Yours” takes a very humorous and sarcastic look at 6 different pffice personalities through the eyes of “Corrine” a struggling actress who supplements her income as an office temp. Claudine has performed “Temporarily Yours” at Where Eagles Dare Theatre, Stage Left Studios, The Producer’s Club and at various theatres throughout New York City.

    Thoughts

I am a Youth Development Advocate in New York and I recently invited Luke Nephew of the peace poets to conduct a workshop for my students. My students, who come from high risk areas really responded well to Luke because he could relate to them from a cultural and emotional standpoint. He did not come in and try and teach them he came in and allowed them to teach him. It was a wonderful experience and I would love to nominate the Peace Poets for this project.

    July 30, 2010 at 5:05 pm

    Thoughts

There is a community of women who are loud, proud and accepting of their bodies. Erica Watson’s 1 woman show FAT BITCH is a celebration of those women. By confronting stereotypes of plus sized african-american women, Erica creates a dialogue about gender, class and size that has never been done before. We are all connected. We have all been put in box. Erica’s show encourages all of us to break out of the boxes and barriers that society pushes on us.

I have seen the show twice, and she is a prime example of a Brooklyn artist who is connecting us all together.

I came on here to nominate her, and I am happy that so many other people has already done it. it shows that he works is touching the lives of so many people!

    Hi,
I’m currently sitting at my kitchen table in the seaside town of Balbriggan, North County Dublin, Ireland. I used to live on Jackson street in Williamsburgh and regard Brooklyn as the greatest area I have ever lived (apart from where I grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland; it’s all in the B’s). I nominate my friends PhaseOne and Asa Buchanon of the Bronx because I as an immigrant had the pleasure of taking in their devotion and seeing how self employed they are in hip hop. Brooklyn has brought the finest hip hop artists the world will ever see and that’s because Brooklyn appreciates art. I’m asking you to appreciate art. Thank you for your time.

This dynamic duo is what i consider to be the rebirth of what HIPHOP is all about. I grew up on what was known as REAL RAP, REAL HIPHOP, Run DMC, KRS-ONE, over the years is seems to have died but one listen to these 2 guys, and you will be reminded of the days of sitting on the front porch with your boom box, in some fresh ADIDAS & some Gazelles. Every since i was 1st introduced to them on The Listening Party Radio show, I have virtually fell in love with them, their style, their personality, but most of all, their realness of HIPHOP. They are a rare breed, truly unlike any other in my opinion. They KEEP me ‘dancing in my PJS’ each time I listen to their songs ‘We Goin’ and the funky old school afro puff style ‘Con-FunkShun’ This duo will give you a show from start to finish. They are definitely BUGNANAS!!
