Anne Bonney
b. 1690s, Ireland; date of death unknown

The pirate Anne Bonney was captured by a government ship in 1720 along the coast of Jamaica. The nine men with her were executed and she was jailed, along with Mary Read, another pirate. Nothing is known of Bonney's fate after she was imprisoned. Her numerous love affairs, zeal for adventure, and skill with a sword have inspired film portrayals in Anne of the Indies (1951), Against All Flags (1952), Captain Kidd and the Slave Girl (1954), and The King's Pirate (1967).
