Antonia Bembo, an Italian composer and singer born in Venice, moved to Paris some time before 1676 and performed for King Louis XIV, who granted her a pension (government funding) that allowed her to remain in France and dedicate herself to composition. She composed numerous serenatas, arias, religious and secular cantatas, and the opera Ercole amante (1707).
