Aspasia of Athens
Flourished circa 5th century A.D., Athens, ancient Greece
Little is known of the life of the Athenian physician Aspasia. Her medical writings are recorded in the Tetrabiblion of Aetius, a book on gynecology by Aetius of Amida (502–575), the royal physician to Justinian I (reigned 527–565), and she is mentioned in correspondence between Aetius and the emperor. Apparently she practiced obstetrics and gynecology, and seems to have been Aetius' teacher.
