Hippo
Probably legendary, reputedly flourished circa 5th century B.C., ancient Greece
In Memorable Deeds and Sayings (circa A.D. 31), the Roman historian and moralist Valerius Maximus relates the tale of a heroic Greek girl named Hippo, who becomes a prisoner of war on an enemy ship. Rather than allow herself to be raped, she throws herself into the sea.
