Isak Dinesen is the publishing pseudonym of Danish-born writer Karen Blixen. In 1914, Blixen moved to Kenya with her husband to direct a coffee plantation; after their divorce in 1921, she continued to manage the plantation independently for ten years. She returned to Denmark in 1931; her books Seven Gothic Tales (U.S. edition, 1934) and Out of Africa (1938) were published to wide commercial and critical acclaim.
