Jane Anger

Jane Anger was a British writer who, in 1589, published the pamphlet Jane Anger, Her Protection for Women, an early feminist refutation of negative portrayals of women’s character and intellectual capacity. Written in response to a series of mocking broadsides on the nature of womanhood, the text blends witty invective and psychological insight. Nothing is known about Jane Anger beyond her name on the pamphlet, which may well be a pseudonym.
