Kubaba
Flourished circa 2500 B.C., Kish, Sumer (modern-day Iraq)
Kubaba (also Kug-Baba or Kubau) is the only queen listed among the Sumerian rulers. She was said to have reigned for 100 years, during a time characterized by peace and prosperity. Originally a tavern keeper, Kubaba ruled Kish during its third (and last) dynasty. Dates are uncertain, but she probably lived some time in or around the twenty-fifth century B.C.
