Myrine
Mythic, known in ancient Greece, beginning circa 1200 B.C.
Myrine was the leader of the North African Amazons, a mythic race of warrior women, centered around Libya. She was a great military leader and she conquered many territories, including Atlantis and the island of Lesbos, where she founded their capital city, Mytilene, named after one of her sisters. Each successive queen took the title Myrine as an honor to the first great ruler and her efforts in expanding the kingdom.
