Theano
Flourished circa 550 B.C.E., ancient Greece
According to tradition, Theano was the wife of the philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, and was herself a philosopher, as well as a physician and administrator. Her daughter, Damo, took up her parents’ vocation. Theano directed her husband’s school after his death and, though no written works are extant, she is credited with writing the treatise on the Golden Mean.
