Veleda
Flourished circa A.D. 50, northern Germany
Veleda was a virgin prophet of the Bructeri, a tribe from northern Germany. In A.D. 69/70, during a regional revolt against the Romans known as the Batavian Rebellion, Veleda became famous when her prophecies about the outcome proved correct. Veleda may not have been her actual name, but rather a general title for a female prophet.
