sourdough starter
Maggie Cardelus. sourdough starter, 2011.
Description:
I built up a sourdough in a large ceramic "basket" I made to look like a hemisphere, a pregnant belly, a landscape, a spiralling umbilical cord, a galaxy. The pungent yeasty and then acid smell of the sourdough suggested something primal, body-like odors, primordial seas, photo developer. The sourdough dried and left a crust on the inside of the pot that looked liked old skin.
