Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art: Videos

Marin Alsop is the first woman to direct a major American orchestra, the first artist to win both Gramophone's Artist of the Year Award and the Royal Philharmonic Society's Conductor's Award in the same season, and the first conductor named to a MacArthur Fellowship. She is the music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra. On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, fifteen extraordinary women who are first in their fields were honored with Sackler Center First Awards. The event commemorated the fifth anniversary of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, the first center within an art museum to be devoted to the exhibition and study of feminist art. The event was presented by Elizabeth A. Sackler and Gloria Steinem and hosted by Soledad O'Brien and Laura Flanders. The award was designed by Judy Chicago.
