Museum Guides are volunteer members of the Brooklyn Museum’s Education Division who lead engaging tours for adults of the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions. Museum Guides lead both regularly scheduled public tours and pre-scheduled group tours.
While no specific experience or previous training is required, applicants must have excellent communication skills, an enthusiasm for exploring and learning from works of art, and a desire to promote art’s ability to engage, surprise, and illuminate. All Guides work with adults with a variety of interests and abilities.
Museum Guides have access to many benefits, including:
- Ongoing professional development opportunities in art history and museum education theory and practice
- In-depth courses on art from around the world, taught by scholars and other art professionals
- Social and learning excursions to galleries and museums
- Discounts in the Museum Café and Shop
- Free admission to museums in New York and throughout the country
- Opportunities to connect with others who share your interest in and passion for art
Applications are accepted for the Museum Guide program throughout the year. Interviews are conducted in late spring, and professional development for new Guides begins each fall. If you have questions or are interested in applying, please contact museum.guides@brooklynmuseum.org.
