Stories from the Deep: Drawing on the Subconscious
Section 1: Saturdays, 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Section 2: Saturdays, 1–3 p.m.
Develop your drawing techniques and find your artistic voice by accessing the imagery of your subconscious mind. Learn how artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Chitra Ganesh, and others throughout our collections have used the power of their imaginations and examined their dreams and rituals to create powerful images and objects. Explore drawing in a painterly way using brush, ink, and powdered charcoal.
Sundays, 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Capture the essence of people and the times through portraiture. Study portraits by Rembrandt and other master artists, and then observe how contemporary works, such as the photography of Zanele Muholi and the paintings of Kehinde Wiley, reflect identity today. Develop your painting skills as you paint from life and from photographs of those you love.
