In this course you'll explore painting from imagination and memory. Using images and ideas from dreams, daydreams, memories, history, and spirituality, you'll create paintings that rely on the mind’s eye as a primary source. You'll also use the abstract works of Marsden Hartley and Ross Bleckner to investigate how artists express a variety of themes through nonrepresentational painting.
Drawing the Museum
Sundays, 10:30–12:30 p.m.
If you had a chance to design a museum, what would it look like? Explore architectural drawing and 2-D design and sketch diverse spaces in the Brooklyn Museum to help develop your vision of a museum. Along with learning concepts such as one- and two-point perspective and using graphite to render textures, you'll hear about the Museum’s history, view the original blueprints, and then create a 3-D model of your own museum.
Art and Social Protest
Sundays, 1–3 p.m. This course has been cancelled.
Be inspired by a diverse array of artists engaged with activism, including Ai Weiwei, Judy Chicago, Swoon, and those who addressed civil rights in the 1960s, while creating art that speaks to the issues most important to you. Explore a variety of materials, including photography and silkscreen, as you consider how other artists have documented their experiences in times of great social change.
