Education: Museum Apprentice Program

The Museum Apprentice Program is a great opportunity for teens to work behind the scenes at a major art museum. In this yearlong program, fifteen high school students are introduced to the fields of museum education and art education. Apprentices assist with family programs, act as a teen advisory board, engage in discussion with artists and curators, and develop events for other teens. They learn new ways of looking at art, study different cultures and historical periods, practice public-speaking skills, and lead tours for Museum groups. During the summer, Apprentices lead educational tours and gallery activities for day camp children age five through twelve.

The Museum Apprentice Program is open to all high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and beginning seniors. The program begins in October and concludes in August. Meetings are held every other Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., October through June. Apprentices must work a minimum of one weekend day per month during the school year. In July and August, Apprentices will work with camp groups from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays. Apprentices must commit to a full year and are required to attend all meetings and work days.

Applications for the Museum Apprentice Program are due in September. Please see the application for deadline and instructions.
