Artist Statement
This is a dualistic representation of the Gowanus low lands that separates industrial Red Hook from residential Park Slope. On the left we have the new heavily built highways where traffic moves fast On the right the stillness of the old water canal with the sunken barge and the old subway line. The barge is symbolic of the old Brooklyn sinking-vanishing. The suspended highway is symbolic of the new Brooklyn raising. It’s nostalgia versus “progress and development” This is a panoramic view taken with a digital SLR by rotating the camera horizontally

Was that a 20mm lens? It appears too wide to be one shot, or stitched. Maybe I'm wrong. Good shot, good observation. - Goddy
Both sides of the equation are nevertheless cold images for me, in spite of the "nostalgic" implications attributed to the right plane.
nice panoramic on a nice day. would've preferred the "divider" off center, giving the author some voice and look more like a transition.
This one is friggin' good. One of the best, if not the best, I've seen of the selections.
i really love this the technique was great it seems like all it takes to go back in the past is just to cross that bridge as if generfication is an easy process
Needs more than PS auto-blend
The saturation of color adds to the appeal of this image.
Great composition.
The best. Expecially the old water canal--a wonderful nostalgic view of what will soon no longer be. — Posted by karen udo
