Albert Areizaga. Coney Island from the Saucer, 2005. All rights reserved

Artist Statement

My grandfather often spoke about pushing me around Coney Island in a baby carraige during the late 1950's. When I first went as an adult I could not help but feel a sense of nostalgia. I few years ago I took my kids. My son wanted to ride on the Cyclon. I took this photo from the "Flying Saucer" ride and unknowingly froze a moment in Brooklyn history. If the planned demolition of Coney Island occurs, my children's children will only experience it through photos like this and film.

Loads of photos of Coney ... this one is the best of all.

almost looks like an aerial shot

I like the balance, action and sentiment of this photograph. I've heard about Coney Island all my life but have never been there. This photo takes me there.

Fabulous vantage point, used to great effect.

This is wonderfully composed, and timeless. This photo could have been taken years ago, or last summer.

If the planned demonlition of Coney Island occurs - another cultural icon not only of Brooklyn, but of America will vanish.

love composition, movement, people,

Interesting point of view but random composition and no consideration given to corners and edges of the picture.

spinning metal webs random spirals of colour signifying a place that has been allow to evolve as opposed to be planned according to the notions of the day.

beautiful composition.
