Richard Louissaint. Bedstuy Block Party #1, 2007. All rights reserved
Artist Statement
With the seemingly rapid change in demographics that Brooklyn has seen in the last few years, these kids competing in a block party dance off and the spectators in the background represent the last of the natives in Bedstuy. This block like many on the neighborhood still have a majority of families who have lived there for decades with little pockets of transplants moving in. But in the case of this picture, the transplants participated by providing DJ services. .

great action!
nice action shot
i dont think these people will be so happy when they are evicted so a condo can be built where they have lived for decades.
Great, the brownstones and I heart NY shirts. I like the way the dancers frame the crowd in a dynamic way.
Great movement, dynamic colors, emphasis on youth. Wonderful!
I love the defiance and strength captured in the front boys stance and face! This is My Brooklyn he could be saying. I love the community moment too!
Where are the transplants?don't see them in the picture
Capturing all that motion in mid-air is a combination of luck and skill. I loved this one. — Posted by Patty
