Artist Statement

With the gentrification of many areas in Brooklyn have altered the borough’s landscape and residents. This phenomenon in which low-cost, physically deteriorated neighborhoods undergo physical renovation and an increase in property values, along with an influx of wealthier residents as change the prior residents. The increases in rent and property taxes often spark the dispersal of communities whose members find that housing in the area is no longer affordable. Some view gentrification as a positive phenomenon praise its effect on neighborhood's crime rates, others believe that the crime has not truly been reduced, but merely shifted to different neighborhoods.

I don't see how this represents gentrification or the show's theme. Interesting shot though.

trying waaaaayyyy too hard.

If this is where Brooklyn is going, Great Picture

Too stagy. It looks like he escaped from an old Talking Heads video. Sadly, I may have just as many remotes laying around my house.

great pic! but not specific to brooklyn!

near to the worst photo I've seen. Keep your portfolio to yourself if it's not relevant.

this has nothing to do with brooklyn and doesn't need to be in a brooklyn specific exhibition

This gives no sense of place. This could be anywhere in the world. And I'm not understanding the symbolism of how this man with his vacant stare and many remotes represents the changing face of Bklyn.

so open the blinds and show me he's in brooklyn and not in boston...

interesting idea, but the angle is unnerving, and the assortment of elements in the frame (essentially a constructed portrait, little different from a still-life) don't seem entirely appropriate: why THAT couch? why THOSE pillows? why THAT switched-off lamp? why THOSE blinds; why shut tight?

clever the glass of milk a nice touch

I am loving this.

could be anywhere, and a bit to staged for my liking

I love this!!! I laughed out loud when it came up. Perhaps not as pertinent to the theme as some pictures but a great comment on many levels.

liked the picture but Brooklyn?

Interesting themes, fascinating photo; but, is it expressing a Brooklyn-centric theme? I'm not sure.

Eek, this is bad. Entirely too contrived, cliche and amateurish.

?

I really like this photo — Posted by shveckle

this goes to show that these curators don't have a clue about feelings in photography. — Posted by anonymous

This picture doesn't relate to only homes in Brooklyn, but to all homes with WAY too many devices with remotes. :) — Posted by QueenieCutie
