Elizabeth Weinberg. The Skeleton of the Red Hook Sugar Refinery, 2006. All rights reserved

Artist Statement

I had been enamored with the sugar refinery in Red Hook far before its fate was decided. The dilapidated framework extending into the water and the iconic cone shape of the silo were both beautiful and sad. Once its demolition began, I took trips to the pier nearby to photograph the progression from disrepair to destruction. I shot several photographs on this unseasonably warm December's day, and merged them together to form a 180+ degree panorama.

Wow, very nice capture! Very poignant, and the stark contrast & sunset work well here!
