Artist Statement
Raised in Brooklyn I have witnessed the evolution of our community. Now we see the dramatic and rapid changing of our landscape, based not on the community or the evolution of it, but on it's lucrative value. Coney Island is a historic symbol of Brooklyn. I think we are all waiting in anticipation to see what happens to it, as well as what happens to the rest of Brooklyn. Will we have our place in this redeveloped vision? nice framing
A well thought out composition.
this is the 2nd shot I have seen framed in a similar way of a Coney Island icon.
beautiful color, and the addition of the hand into the photograph really brings home the longing yet uncertain feelings you seemed to want to express.
I love this shot, imagine what else is behind the fence
it is cool to cut out a piece of wood and seeing something else
This is pretty cheesy. By putting the artist's "hand" into the picture, he or she is really trying to force the statement. The artist should have left the image of the framed wonder wheel more open to interpretation.
I love this...but I don't see "changing face of Brooklyn"...I see "Brooklyn"
I like the blues and the hand as if the viewer is moving a curtain away to get a peek of something hidden from view.
a wonderful look into the past
Great color perspective, scale and formal composition.
This is a really interesting idea for the shot. Expresses anticipation very well.
and the winner is
There are a few images like this in this competition (the ferris wheel behind this wall), but the element of the hand is unnecessary and make it look cheesy.
great shot. Really expresses the old and the new, leaving the positivness of the changes to the viewer, still wondering if change is good
The most evocative for me of the Coney Island genre so far (at 103). Also has a wider connotation, hello Riesenrad, anyone? A great image with an interesting way of indicating the future and past. Like the reference to looking and seeing as well.
wow...the colour, the focus, the hand holding the image...wow...
Must be included in the exhibition - my favorite so far - love it, love it, love it
