Artist Statement
Canon Rebel XT- 35mm lens, f/14, 13s. Cold light filters through a fourth floor skylight onto the grand staircase in Quarters B of Admiral’s Row. Located in historic Fort Greene in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the entire Row is being threatened by developers who want to turn the Civil War-era buildings into a sprawling parking lot for a grocery store. Empty since the early 80s, the future of these Second Empire structures remains uncertain, caught in a debate between the community’s desire for preservation and BNYDC’s greed.

Love the snow. Something about this photo reminds me of a leopard.
needed more of the staircase on to the right! i am a digger for compositions, u see!!
WOW!
Just beautiful and remarkably haunting examination of decay of affluence...
Not "Brooklyn" enough this staircase could be anywhere.
Stunning shot.
I really love the composition of this shot.
reminds us of Brooklyn's grandeur, certainly worthy of keeping!
why dowe neglect the old beuatiful homes?
So pretty. And I love the snow.
Heartbreaking image, beautifully composed. Photographer's characterization of threatened legacy as being driven by BNYDC greed distracts from singular richness of image; the image portrays long-term decay. Please save the politics & let the viewer decide the value of what may be lost.

To the last commenter before the cut - what the heck is an "artistic statement" if not a place for an... ARTIST... to make a... STATEMENT... I feel like you missed the boat on this concept. — Posted by Kirk
