Artist Statement

When most people look at this photo, the image of an uncle is conjured in their minds. Reminiscent of an earlier time, a reflection of the past, a simpler calmer planet. With the explosion of the Caribbean Diaspora in Brooklyn, a borough that may have at one time been predominantly filled with immigrants from Europe, the paradigm has shifted to a new colorful and culture filled people who have one of the largest parades in the world every Labor Day. This was shot on a digital SLR with a 17-85mm lens, de-saturated and then given a sepia tint.

Might be a nice photo were it honest - a colour digital image, desaturated and then sepiatoned, smacks of manipulation and suggests that the original image could not stand on its own two legs. Want B&W? Learn to shoot film.

didn't think uncle

interesting looking guy, could have gotten better perspective.

The subject is interesting but the treatment of colour seems to have detracted

I know the author of this shot :) Great shot.

While the image quality is great, I don't think the content says a whole about the Caribbean Diaspora.

I like this photo, but the commentary, while starts off with the theme of uncle (which I agree) becomes irrelevant.

I like that he's sitting in what appears to be a vintage auto

Faces of Brooklyn + reference to time with the older cars.

?

I like the nostalgic feel the sepia tone gives the image. — Posted by anonymous
