Trish Mayo. Hot Bird's Last Stand, 2008. All rights reserved

Artist Statement

Taken at the Atlantic Yards project area where blocks of buildings have been razed. This seems to be a lone survivor of the destruction or is it? The piece of construction equipment lurking in the right side of the photo seems to be creeping up on the one remaining building. The "Hot Bird" signage on the side of the building is a remnant of a business fondly remembered and mourned by Brooklyn residents which was torn down to make way for the project.

This photograph ably sums up the loss we are experiencing throughout Brooklyn - it's character.

my hood

This is a picture of nostalgia without evoking nostalgia. In other words, you're telling me this is a building in danger (maybe) without showing me, thus making me care about it.

Up there with the likes of Steven Shore. Very well composed.

I almost wish that the artist had spray painted an additional "No" before "hot bird." Otherwise you don't really understand the change symbolized here. No way the viewer could know that the hot bird is gone now.

distructions means reconstructions. advertising on the descrutcions site. i love it. ironic and cultural. original. of course from brookling

definitely conveys in brilliant colors the idea of a community in flux.

Composition can be improved. Use the Komatsu for its leading lines.
