An Xiao. Departure (Coney Island), 2007. All rights reserved

Artist Statement

I think of my photography as "street haiku", i.e., Zen moments in the city. Zen has taught me that nothing is permanent, including great urban icons like Coney Island. I took this image in the summer of 2007 on the pier, far from the majority of the amusements, to try and imagine a New York without Astroland Park and historic Coney Island. With Thor Equities' recent acquisition of the land, it seems like the city, like all things, is changing once more.

Fantastic composition.

Beautiful photograph and not what you would expect for "Changing Faces". Interpretation is key in art and this one has many along with simple natural beauty.

read lawrence ferlinghetti's homage to coney island while watching the sea gulls fly away to greener beaches

just don't like b&W unless there is a rational for it. Great shot though.
