This photograph was taken at the Grand Army Plaza Arch. For many years this beautiful Brooklyn location looked reminiscent of the past. Recently, a new building was added in a space that was a parking lot. It is a modern building and the dominating feature is glass. Among the figures on the arch, one seems to be pointing to this new building, possibly discussing the visual impact it brings to the neighborhood. Seeing this building every day, I never get used to the dramatic architectural change.

Effective composition. Photo quality is ok
interesting but not quite there!
This photo did give me a chuckle. It is absolutely pointing out the changes history has brought.
Very clever capture.
Nice sense of humor, which doesn't appear in many of the submissions. Good use of cropping to get the sense of the old building receding into the past and the newer building seeming to move forward as a threat.
Perfection - this captures the essence of what I hope this exhibit will be about.

interesting composition; i wonder about 1) returning several different times of the day/times of the year to ensure you have the right lighting and weather conditions; and 2) if the mesh on the figures is intended to be symbolic of anything (if so, how to draw it out further?)
Is this the PAST pointing towards our future. The rich ornate statue pointing at the stark minimalist that is becoming the norm.
better than the manipulated one of the same images
nice spin on something we see everyday - how ironic
too bad they couldn't aim the cannon at it.
Love this photo! This completely represents the project: the changing face of Brooklyn. The Meier project is like an odd phoenix rising on Eastern Parkway amidst history and old guard...
the protective netting on the statue just adds something...
great idea, and great juxtaposed position...however, lack of good cropping takes away from the dynamics of what could have been a master shot crop at least a little more than 3rd off bottom...trees not necessary..and see difference...wow what a lost for me...
I've seen one very much like this one earllier, but liked the other explanataion.
YES! This is exactly the image that speaks to my feelings on that new building. I can't imagine a more concise representation of how the Grand Army Plaza area is changing.
This image is the same idea as another entrant. The image quality is better here, but the composition and light level is much worse. There's nothing holding this together. Is the third time the charm at getting this shot right?
I can appreciate the response of those who find the changing architecture unsettling, but the parkin lot that was the site of this building was ugly, ugly, ugly! And by the way, it is located in Prospect Heights, not Park Slope. — Posted by B.F.
The writer, James Joyce, said of those statues seen all over Europe, a guy on a horse with one arm raised: Joyce said, "They're all saying: "The shit was piled this high in my day." — Posted by Kevin Z. Moore
