Decorative Arts Galleries, 4th Floor
Our decorative arts collection is housed on our fourth floor. The focus of the collection is a group of twenty-three complete American period rooms ranging in date from the seventeenth century to the twentieth century. In order to preserve these premier examples of American architecture and interior design, the rooms were disassembled and moved from their original locations up and down the East Coast, then reassembled and furnished for display in our galleries.
Interspersed with the period rooms are galleries that display an outstanding collection of American and European decorative arts. Additional objects from the decorative arts collection are on display on the fifth floor in American Identities and the Luce Visible Storage ▪ Study Center.
