    Brooklyn Society of Artists: Annual Exhibition [31st]

    • November 18, 1946: The thirty-first Annual Exhibition of the Brooklyn Society of Artists, open to all artists now living or teaching in Brooklyn, will be held at the Brooklyn Museum from January 15 through February 9, 1947. A jury composed of members of the Society, non-exhibiting artists and Eleanor B. Swenson, Assistant Curator of Paintings and Sculpture of the Museum, will select the works to be shown and make the awards. The latter, given by the Brooklyn Society of Artists, will be presented in the form of U. S. Savings Bonds to the total value of $325. All exhibitors are eligible for these awards.

      The exhibition includes work in oil, water color, sculpture and prints and drawings. All entries must be brought to the Museum on one of the following days: December 12, 13 and 14, 1946.

      No entry cards are required, but anyone interested in submitting work for the exhibition should write for information forms and entry stickers to: Department of Paintings, The Brooklyn Museum, Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn 17, N. Y.

    • January 15, 1947: The 31st Annual Exhibition of the Brooklyn Society of Artists opened yesterday afternoon at the Brooklyn Museum with a preview for Museum members, exhibiting artists and their guests. The exhibition, which is open to all artists now living or teaching in Brooklyn, was selected from over 850 entries, includes 161 works, in all media, by 120 artists. Members of the Brooklyn Society of artists are entitled to the inclusion, jury exempt, of one work in each of two media.

      As in previous years, the Jury of Selection and Award consisted of two members of the Brooklyn Society of Artists, two non-exhibiting artists and the member of the Brooklyn Museum staff in charge of the exhibition. The members of the Jury for this exhibition were as follows: Mrs. Nell Choate Jones, B.S.A., John Rogers, B.S.A., Max Weber, Warren Wheelock and Eleanor B. Swenson, Assistant Curator of Paintings and Sculpture of the Brooklyn Museum.

      The show, organized and installed by Miss Swenson, will be on view in the Entrance Hall and Special Exhibition Galleries of the Museum through February 9. The winners of the prizes, presented by the Brooklyn Society of Artists, are listed below:
