      October 15, 1971: This season’s series of one-man art shows by selected students of The Brooklyn Museum Art School will open on October 24th in the Little Gallery of the Art School.

      Chosen from work submitted to Sarah Faunce, curator of The Brooklyn Musem’s Paintings and Sculpture Department, the 70-71 series of monthly mini-shows includes paintings and conceptual art.

      The eight artists whose work will be shown are:
      October 24 - November 10 - OLIVE ALPERT
      November 14 - December 1 - BETH AREINOFF
      January 30 - February 16 - JAN OSCHERWITZ
      February 20 - March 8 - CAROL STRONGHILOS
      March 12 - March 29 - H. ARNO HENSELER
      April 2 - April 19 - MARJORIE STEPHENS
      April 23 - May 10 - MARINA BAKER
      May 15 - May 31 - REBECCA FINDHAL

      The Brooklyn Museum Art School, headed by Jolyon Hofsted, has an enrollment of over 1000 students this fall. Its 33 instructors, all professional artists, teach more than 70 full - and part-time courses. Painting and drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, cloisonné enameling, welding, woodworking, stained glass and batik classes are offered.

      A special weekend program for high school students is taught by professional artists.

I believe the artist takes pictures of herself dressed as a man but then exposes her femaleness, as in the photo of her dressed as an Ascetic Jew exposing her breast.       Brooklyn Museum Art School

      The Brooklyn Museum Art School opened at the Brooklyn Museum in 1941 and was transferred to the Pratt Institute's Continuing Education Division in 1985. While not a degree-granting institution, its chief purpose was the training of professional artists, although it also offered classes for amateurs. The Art School organized regular group and one-person exhibitions, which were held in the school's gallery and classrooms in the Museum's west wing.
      The Brooklyn Museum Archives maintains a collection of historical press releases. Many of these have been scanned and made available on our Web site. The releases range from brief announcements to extensive articles; images of the original releases have been included for your reference. Please note that all the original typographical elements, including occasional errors, have been retained. Releases may also contain errors as a result of the scanning process. We welcome your feedback about corrections.
      For select exhibitions, we have made available some or all of the informative text panels written by the curator or organizer. Called "didactics," these panels are presented to the public during the exhibition's run, and we reproduce them here for your reference and archival interest. Please note that any illustrations on the original didactics have not been retained, and that the text may contain errors as a result of the scanning process. We welcome your feedback about corrections.
      For select exhibitions, we have made available some or all of the objects from the Brooklyn Museum collection that were in the installation.
