  • August 8, 1982 “Worlds of Wonder: Brooklyn Artists of Science Fiction and Fantasy”, an exhibition by ten Brooklyn illustrators, will be on view in the Community Gallery of The Brooklyn Museum from August 8 through September 26.

This exhibition of paintings, drawings, and sculptural pieces explores the worlds of fantasy and science fiction through the works of ten Brooklyn artists who are prominent in this specialized field of illustration. The exhibition was organized with the assistance of Lucie Chin and Freff, both of whom are science fiction authors and illustrators.

Delving into the imaginary realms of either science fiction or fantasy, the artists make us see and believe in these “worlds of wonder” by giving form to their dreams and visions. “The artists in the field of science fiction and fantasy,” states Freff, “are at the leading edge of a long tradition of illustrating the hopes and dreams of humanity. These artists deal in our dreams because it is our dreams that shape our future.” The exhibition focuses on the quality and diversity of expression in contemporary science fiction and fantasy illustration.

In conjunction with the exhibition, there will be a gallery talk on “The Art of Science Fiction and Fantasy” by Lucie Chin and Freff at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 19, in the Community Gallery.

Participating artists are: Susan Bonners, Lee Dillon, Freff, Terrance Lindall, Elizabeth Malczynski, Yuko Nii, Bob Pepper, and Brenda Pepper.
