On Saturday, March 29 at 3 P.M. the Brooklyn Museum will present JAPAN THROUGH THE DANCE with the famous Japanese dancer Sahomi Tachibana and Company in the Sculpture Court at the Museum. The program will be free to the public.
SAHOMI TACHIBANA is one of the foremost exponents of the Japanese dance, both ancient and modern. She studied in Japan with the members of the great dance family Tachibana. Because of her complete mastery of the classical dance as well as the imagination with which she approached the modern, she acquired her professional name, one that is revered in the realm of the Japanese dance, from the head master Sakon Tachibana. Japanese dance is clearly related to the religious, artistic and every day life of the people of Japan and today’s program truly illustrates Japan Through the Dance.
This dance program is being presented in conjunction with the exhibition of JAPANESE CRAFTSMEN current in the Museum galleries through April 6.

An exhibition of contemporary Japanese crafts opens to the public at The Brooklyn Museum today (Feb. 21). A preview was held yesterday for Museum members and their guests. The exhibition will continue through April 6th.
The exhibition was selected by Dr. Soetsu Yanagi, director of the National Folk Art Museum in Tokyo from the work of members of the Folk Art Society of Japan.
Included in the exhibit are ceramics by Hamada, Kawai, Fukani, Uneda and Sukuma and other lesser known potters. Textiles, basketry, lacquer work and Japanese papers are also shown. All the objects on exhibition are suitable for modern living.
A Japanese tea house has been installed in the Museum entrance hall as a feature of the exhibition.

During the course of the exhibition a program of Japanese Music and Dance will be given in the Museum Sculpture Court on Saturday, March 29, at 3 P.M. by Sahomi Tachibana and Company.
