Catalogue Description:
Side Chair, Walnut. Trapezoidal seat frame with caned central section below which front seat rail has carved central rosette flanked by deeply incised, stylized ornament. Front and rear legs, notched at edges, can’t inward from floor to seat and form a pointed arch under side seat rails. Side stretchers between legs and medial stretcher have exposed tenon and key joints. Back stiles rise from center of rear legs to crest rail with lower back rail through-tenoned and pierced with four quatrefoils. Central splat pierced with four quatrefoils. Crest rail with pointed top edge has central pierced trefoil surrounded by incised, stylized ornament. CONDITION: Normal wear. Proper left stile split under joint with crest rail; lower edge of crest rail chipped near this. Caned seat replaced. Inner top edge of seat frame shows old nail holes and incised lines from later inappropriate upholstery.
