This object is a disassembled miniature consisting of: the portrait (watercolor on an oval sheet of ivory glued to paper), backing paper cut from the artist's business card, and the metal liner and glass lens which were part of the now-lost original housing (most likely, a locket). There is a faint graphite tracing of the sitter's head and an illegible inscription on the verso of the portrait.
