Catalogue Description:
Side Chair: Wooden seat, back and legs surfaced with painted molded gesso. Horseshoe-shaped seat; flaring rectangular canted back with rounded shoulders cabriole legs. The legs near the feet have a striated surface with molded, applied leaves. At the knees and continuing around the seat rail of the chair is molded gesso ornament of layered, overlapping, scale-like circular leaves, undulating in profile. Legs and seat rails finished in silver color with oxidation. Seat of chair has a molded rocaille border and raised gesso decoration of a flowering vine following outline of seat with twining leaves and blossoms. Seat ground is dark gold color; ornament is darker brown and gold. Back has molded rocaille border and, on front, a gold ground with raised gesso decoration continuous with that on seat. On rear of back the chair has a silver ground color over painted with green and the raised vining flower ornament, en suite with that on front, is in shades of gold and copper.
