Catalogue Description:
Side Chair, rosewood (en suite with 86.244.1) Elizabethan revival. Turned and carved stiles, stretchers, crest rail, splat-frame, and front legs, with twist-turned interrupted by square blocks embellished on front and outer edges with carved, applied rosettes; back legs, bases are straight-cut and stiles evolve into carved foliate vase forms; crest-rail carved with "C" scrolls, center terminates with carved crest shell finial. Splat frame carved with "C" scrolls and foliate forms bordering oblong center with canted corners upholstered with red velvet on front, and red damask on back. Seat fitted with wire springs, padding and upholstered with red silk damask and framed with red piping. CONDITION: Horizontal crack through shell finial, with surrounding hardened glue indicating previous repair to area. Silk upholstery on seat severely torn in several areas. Upholstery not original. Casters missing from feet. Various scratches around feet and legs of chair.
