Catalogue Description:
Kachina doll carved from one piece of wood. The entire body is painted black. This kachina probably represent Pookon (Pookong) "of the sun" the elder of the War Twins in the Hopi creation story. (The younger War Twin is Balonga.) The War Twins' mother was Spider Woman and there are many stories about them. Stewart Koyiyumptewa said that this deity is also referred to as Echo Boy and that he is mischievous (6/5/19).
