Catalogue Description:
Folding Rocking Chair; walnut, brass, and original upholstery. Diagonal stiles join crest rail to front outside sleighs, covered with continuous convex brass molding. Straight crest rail and straight cross stretcher at front of sleigh also covered with brass. Square wooden frame shape supports front seat rail and extends backward on diagonal to cross stretcher at midpoint of sleighs. Metal hook and eye secures seat frame support to rear of cross stretcher at midpoint of sleighs. Olive-colored fabric with narrow dark red border slung from crest rail to back seat rail. Seat fabric slung from front to back seat rail with red and gold gimp across front seat rail and secured with eleven spaced half-round brass tacks. Conventionalized Eastlake-style pattern on seat and back with three centered red flowers, dark red and beige leaves with tripartite lambrequin design below. CONDITION: Very good original condition; upholstery frayed at edges, especially along seat; missing fabric lining to rear of back and bottom of seat; some tarnish to brass, minor dents, some blue-green encrustation at crest rail; hook and eye probably replaced.
