Catalogue Description:
A breast ornament originally consisting of 3 parts (a-c). The larger of the two ornaments (36.929b) is called a "trapelakucha" (Mapuche). "Trapel" means chest or pecho (Spanish) and "akucha" (Mapuche) means pin or aguja (Spanish). This ornament is worn by women at the center of the chest with the pin attaching the two ends of the shawl. The smaller, narrower ornament (36.929a) is called "siküll" (Mapuche) and is worn on the side of the chest. Part "c" was lost/deaccessioned 1969 (see 36.929c)
