Catalogue Description: Pewter tankard with hinged lid. Cylindrical body with stepped ridge around lower edge, body tapers toward top, then flares out at an angle at lip. Raised narrow band runs around body about 1 ¾" up from bottom. Attached, cast S-shaped handle (soldered on) with short tail end; handle tapers toward end and terminates in rounded ball. Lid is a stepped dome with molded and incised bands; hinged to top of handle with flat rectangular piece that extends from the hinge then bends upright (forming a thumb piece) and is soldered to lid at the underside of the bend; this thumb piece has a heart-shaped cut-out and its top edge is rounded with two flared, rounded corners. CONDITION: Fair; all-over scratches and pit marks; large dark spots of discoloration or corrosion; white spots of corrosion on handle and on body around handle; patches of pit marks or corrosion on top of lid and bottom of mug; small crack on side edge of lid; one deep pit on underside of lip near handle.
