CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Child's or Luncheon Knife with a plain blade. Handle begins with a short neck from the blade. The sides of the handle then flare out and then in gradually and then out gradually to form an elongated oval with a pointed end. The decoration consists of a leaf within a triangular reserve near the blade end. A scroll border surrounds the broad oval end with leafy fronds on either end. The scripted initials on one side are "JSG" and "TBG Jr. from" on the other. The decoration is the same on the reverse. Olive Pattern. This was one of the first and most common flatware patterns in both sterling and plate. The date of manufacture is indicated by the change in back stamp (after 1871 the ampersand became a W as in this example). Designed ca. 1850.
CONDITION: Good, normal wear.
