Elephant Bangle

Asian Art

On View: Asian Galleries, Arts of South Asia, 2nd floor

Enamel on gold is a landmark of Indian art, and this bangle epitomizes the work of Benares enamellers, characterized by pink and white flowers, from about 1780 to the early nineteenth century. A piece of jewelry such as this would have been a prized luxury item worn by a man.
